How flooring estimating works
Floating floors and planks are sold by the box, and every box states its coverage — for example 19.8 sq ft or 2.22 m². The calculation is simple: floor area, plus waste for your layout, divided by coverage per box, rounded up. What catches people out is measuring: walls are rarely square, closets and doorways are easy to forget, and L-shaped rooms need to be split into rectangles.
Straight installations usually need 5–10% extra; diagonal and herringbone layouts need more. Keep one unopened box after the job — matching a discontinued floor later is very hard.
