About DIYCalcLab
Last updated
DIYCalcLab is a set of free calculators for people planning home-improvement projects: homeowners doing a weekend job, renters refreshing a room, and tradespeople who want a quick materials check before quoting.
What makes us different
- We show the math. Every calculator shows its formula, the default values it assumes and where those defaults come from.
- Real purchase quantities. Results are rounded up to the bags, boxes, sheets and tins you can actually buy, with a shopping list you can copy or print.
- Four regions, one page. Switch between US, Canadian, UK and Australian units, terms and common product sizes.
Part of the Lab family
DIYCalcLab is part of a family of engineering and file-tool sites including StructuralEngineerLab, HVACEngineerLab, WaterEngineerLab and PowerEngineerLab. When a question goes beyond estimating materials — such as structural design — we link to the relevant specialist tools.
How we make money
The calculators are free. We plan to show a limited number of clearly labelled ads, and to offer an optional paid plan for saving projects and exporting lists. Some links may become affiliate links, which will always be disclosed (see our affiliate disclosure). Money never changes a calculation result.
