How conversions estimating works
Most estimating mistakes are unit mistakes: multiplying feet by inches, forgetting to divide cubic feet by 27, or rounding a fraction the wrong way. These tools do one conversion each, cleanly, and show the arithmetic so you can check it. Results can be carried straight into the material calculators.
All conversions use exact definitions where they exist — 1 in = 25.4 mm and 1 ft = 0.3048 m exactly — and NIST-published factors elsewhere.
Glossary
- sq ft / m²
- 1 m² = 10.764 sq ft
- cu yd / m³
- 1 cu yd = 0.7646 m³
- 1/16 in
- ≈ 1.6 mm, finest common tape mark
